Brittany Freeland lived in Catonsville, Maryland, a community just outside of Baltimore. The fifteen-year-old girl resided with her family in a home located on Shady Nook Avenue. Like most youths her age, Brittany was filled with energy and the excitement of each and every day.
On Sunday morning, January 8, 2006, Brittany walked out of her home and has not been seen since. Local law enforcement authorities were notified about her being missing and a search was started. Family members, friends and neighbors were questioned by investigators. No one seemed to know about Brittany's whereabouts and whether she had a boyfriend. The girl did not have a history of running away and had not shown signs of planning to do so.
Investigators became more concerned when they learned that Brittany was unaware of a medical condition she has that requires medication. It was made clear that, without the medication, the missing girl could be in grave danger. Posters and fliers were widely circulated and pleas were made to the public for help in recovering the young girl.
The search for Brittany expanded throughout the Baltimore area, including the Lake Clifton and Broadway areas. Reports came in that Brittany was seen around Federal and Washington streets in east Baltimore, but proved to be only a dead-end. Investigators from the Baltimore County Police Department continued to follow every lead and searched every area in and around the city.
The days soon turned into weeks as law enforcement authorities relentlessly continued their search for Brittany. Their initial suspicions that she was a runaway began to give ground to the possibility she could be the victim of an abduction. News of the missing girl went to every national missing child website and program. State authorities were called in to assist in the investigation. Every day proved to be critical for the missing girl's safe recovery.
It has been two and a half months since the disappearance of Brittany Freeland. Law enforcement authorities are still searching for her. Investigators consider her to be a missing and endangered person in critical need of medication for a serious medical condition that she is unaware of. Brittany was last seen wearing a black shirt, blue jeans and white shoes. Her ears are pierced and she may be wearing a brown wig. Brittany may still be in the Park Heights or East Side area of Baltimore, Maryland. Anyone with information on her whereabouts and/or this case is urged to immediately contact the Baltimore County Police Department (1-410-853-3650).
